The successful removal of a tumour from the right atrium under hypothermia.

چکیده
Primary tumours of the heart are rare, and most of those reported in the literature have been histopathological observations from the postmortem table. It is to be expected that in future cardiac tumours will be diagnosed more frequently during the patient's life and before operation, thanks to diagnostic improvements in cardiology and radiography. It is equally to be expected that the number of tumours successfully removed from the heart will increase if an operative technique on the open heart under hypothermia or extracorporeal circulation is u1sed (Bickford, Egan, and Bryce, 1956). To achieve this success more experience must be collected, and that is why we report our patient in whom the cardiac tumour was diagnosed before operation and successfully removed from the open heart under hypothermia.

متن کاملSuccessful surgical removal of an intravenous leiomyoma extending to the right atrium 4 years after hysterectomy.
A 49-year old woman with a history of hysterectomy 4 years previously was found to have intravenous leiomyomatosis. Enhanced computed tomography (CT) revealed that the tumour had reached the right atrium from the right iliac vein through the inferior vena cava. (Fig. 1) The tumour was successfully removed by a single-stage operation (Fig. 2). Figure 1: Multi-detector CT showed the tumour arisin...
متن کاملTransoesophageal echocardiography reduces invasiveness of cavoatrial tumour thrombectomy
The traditional approach to cavoatrial thrombus excision requires median sternotomy, cardiopulmonary bypass with or without hypothermia and circulatory arrest and is associated with significant morbidity and mortality. We describe a transoesophageal echocardiography guided balloon catheter assisted technique for cavoatrial thrombectomy that avoids thoracotomy, extracorporeal circulation and cir...
متن کاملRight Atrium Laceration with Pericardial Tamponade: A Rare Presentation of Blunt Cardiac Trauma
Cardiac laceration from blunt thoracic trauma is not a common presentation. The rate of mortality due to this injury is very high since it is not diagnosed and treated immediately. In this study, we present the case of a 65-year-old man with blunt cardiac trauma, causing right atrial rupture and pericardial tamponade. Successful management of this patient was firstly done with initial pericardi...
